Roughly half the size of Alaska, Namibia is located in Southern Africa between Angola and South Africa, with the South Atlantic Ocean to the west. Namibia’s desert climate is hot and dry, with sparse and unpredictable rainfall. The land primarily forms a high plateau with the Namib Desert along the coast and the Kalahari Desert in the east. Natural resources include diamonds, uranium, lead, silver, zinc, tungsten, fish, natural gas, and hydropower.

Namibia is Africa’s fourth-largest exporter of non-fuel minerals and the world’s fifth-largest producer of uranium. Despite its mineral wealth, the government inherited an economy perverted by apartheid to favor a tiny white minority. With a glaring division between that minority and the poor black majority, the government is faced with the task developing the economy while encouraging the redistribution of wealth. Apartheid has left the country with high levels of black employment. Another problem lies in Namibia’s economic dependence on South Africa. Previously it was a captive market for South African goods and its resources were exploited by South African firms.
The fishing industry has made an impressive recovery after years of decline, thanks to new government measures promoting and monitoring the conservation and use of Namibia’s marine resources. Until recently, pastoral farming was the primary agricultural activity, with beef, mutton and goat meat the main products. While independence ended international sanctions applied during South African rule, and Namibia now has access to world markets, the rural majority is barely able to eke out a living even in non-drought years.

Namibia has around 111,000 Telephone lines and 65,000 Internet users

It is a great opportunity to open a new market in Namibia by registering your .NA domain name.
