Improve Your Domain: A Programming Language Guide

Computer programs, in their rawest form, allow the computer's user to interact with the hardware of the computer. Without computer programs, computers as we know them would not exist. The origins of computer programs can be traced back to 1801 when the Jacquard loom used cards with holes punched in them to generate patterns in the cloth. The first electrically powered computer was made in the 1940's and required programmers to use assembly language. The large amount of time that assembly language took to program encouraged scientists to create higher level languages throughout the 50's such as FORTRAN, LISP, and COBOL. Since then, hundreds of languages have been created, each with their pros and cons.
